Actuate uses AJAX to extend the user experience of your BIRT reports by providing out-of-the-box deployment solutions that offer the ultimate in end- user control. This technology allows developers to quickly deploy BIRT reports without any coding, and enables end users to answer many ad hoc business questions without IT having to create a new report. iPortal provides a rich interactive end-user report viewing experience that shifts report customization to the end-users and the BusinessReport Studio provides end- users a powerful ad-hoc web based report creation tool... both based on the open-source BIRT technology.

This discussion and demonstration will look at the benefits of designing for end-user flexibility and show how end-users can customize their individual BIRT reports by sorting, grouping, filtering, adding/removing columns, inserting aggregations and calculations, or by creating an entire BIRT report from scratch... all from an AJAX based drag-drop web interface. These customized reports can then be saved to be refreshed later or to be shared with others within the organization. The session shows how iPortal can complement your use of open source BIRT to reduce report development cycles, number of report designs, and provide an environment that lets you get up and running quicker with a more polished experience for your end-users.
