implementation used Derby to do this. Other companies have also dedicated time and resources to adopt their products to be used within DTP frameworks and tools, including Sybase.

This short tutorial will work through the process of creating a new DTP enablement profile.

We will walk through the following steps:

  1. Creating a DBDefinition
  2. Creating a driver definition
  3. Expanding/adopting the SQL Model
  4. Creating a catalog loader
  5. Creating logical containment to add new elements to the Data Source Explorer
  6. Creating a Navigator Content Extension to put new elements in tree
  7. Adding a label service

By the end, we will have a working DTP connection profile databases and some code you can take home to explore.

Brian has worked in the computer industry for more than 10 years, first as a technical writer and later as a developer. At New Era of Networks, he worked initially with PowerBuilder and then with Visual Basic doing interesting things with the Microsoft Management Console. Later at Sybase he worked in Java on Eclipse-based projects, eventually becoming a founding committer on the Eclipse Data Tools Platform project where he is currently the component lead for the Data Source Explorer. In his spare time, he likes chasing his kids and pets around his house in Colorado.
