The Parallel Tools Platform (PTP) is intended to address a major deficiency in
the development of parallel
programs: the lack of a robust open-source integrated development environment
designed to provide a
range of tools that can assist in software development for parallel computer
systems. The project was
started in 2005 and has now attracted a number of committers from a variety of
organizations. This talk
will provide an overview of the project, our goals and aspirations, and the
current status of PTP. We will
present our future plans for PTP, including a discussion of some of the
challenges facing developers
working with the latest peta-scale hardware systems. We will also look at some
of the exciting new parallel
tools that are being integrated into Eclipse and that will make use of PTP
infrastructure.
Greg Watson is team leader of the Cluster Research Team in the Advanced Computing Laboratory at Los Alamos National Laboratory, and is project leader for the Eclipse Parallel Tools Platform Project. His research interests focus on tools for parallel computers, program debugging, distributed computing and operating systems. He has contributed to the award winning Clustermatic software suite, a Linux-based cluster management system, and is maintainer of the PPC port of the open-source LinuxBIOS project.
